Here is a list of Frequently Asked Questions that were once asked by our residents.
What exactly is a Senior Co-housing community?
Our Senior Co-housing communities enables seniors to live independently in the scheme of a community with support from their peers living in the community. Instead of aging in an institution or aging in place, we allow the residents to age in a community setting. Our Architects and engineers specifically designed these communities that are aimed to promote peer interactions; the community requires that everyone who lives there to participate in a committee that helps run the community. It’s our specifically designed community to repel three conditions that especially affect seniors: isolation, loneliness, and uselessness. This type of setting offers more than a social fabric; they offer a unique support system. For instance, when a member becomes injured and needs help with maintaining their household or transportation services, the assigned committee will arrange or organize for other community members to assist them. We believe this is the latest innovation in the senior housing industry. The seniors or residents who live in this type of community can only lease the homes; we do not offer any of these units for sale.
Isn’t the decision to move and the actual process overwhelming and stressful?
No!!!! It is not with our Moving Coordination Program, upon your approval into one of our communities. The Resident Services Director will provide managed senior move assistance to aid you and your family throughout the entire moving process. Additionally, we have partnered with select senior move management companies who have the professionalism to serve our future residents. We have developed and tailored our moving packages, so that you and your family will experience a no-hassle and stress-free move. As an incentive for becoming one of our residents, we are pleased to waive the following month’s payment and accredit you that entire month for free. When visiting our community ask our Resident Services Director for more information.
After moving will I have to move again?
Each resident will be assessed prior to move-in and regularly thereafter, to determine which level of care is needed. Therefore, if your needs change over time we've designed our communities and our services to accommodate those changing needs. If a resident's needs are more than we can provide for, we will assist them to determine the best options available.
Would we have to sell the house?
That’s your decision, but most of our residents have sold their home to move into one of our communities and they will tell you it’s the best decision they have ever made. We have some excellent resources we can offer to you to help with the sale of your home and moving arrangements. You may be surprised at how much equity that you have confined in your home that could be earning interest for you, if you sold your home.
What if I have too much furniture or want to bring some of my personal belongings like furniture?
Most of us spend half of our lives collecting things and the other half giving them away. Most of our residents found when they started scaling down, it’s not as stressful as it seemed. In fact our suites and studios are spacious in size and will accommodate many of your personal belongings you want to keep. Our moving coordinator will be able to assist you and coordinate every step of the actual move in process, from measuring space for your furniture to determining where to place it in your new home. Some of our communities will provide furniture to you if you require it.
Is there an age limit to stay in your communities?
We have no maximum age limit, but our minimum age limit is 55.
I think I’m too old to move now?
Some of our residents are older than you are, but they still enjoy a lifestyle that provides them the opportunity of a secure, enjoyable, carefree retirement, and possibly the best years of their life. Our communities are specifically designed to repel three conditions that especially affect seniors: isolation, uselessness and loneliness. Our communities are designed to facilitate peer interactions. Here you will have the opportunity to meet new friends in a community setting, thus giving you the ability to expand those friendships. At our communities, companionship will always be available to you.
Why move now, shouldn’t I wait until something happens that will make me need your services?
No! We don’t recommend this; wouldn’t you rather have a choice now, rather then to have an unforeseen occurrence happen later? This way you control what happens in our life.
I think I’m too young for a senior housing community.
Some of the residents here support the theory that you should not wait until you need assistance, such as personal support services and help with regular daily living activities in order to move into one of our senior housing communities. Wouldn’t you enjoy being in the position of using all of the same services and options that are available to your friends and neighbors. By waiting, you may find yourself in unfamiliar surroundings or find yourself relying on your children or friends to care for you. This may place an excessive burden on them and will take away your independence. Maybe now is the time to move into one of our communities.
I’m still very active, aren’t your communities for those who have decided to slow down?
We have plenty of enrichment activities available to accommodate all of our residents’ lifestyles, from our daily physical exercise classes to our monthly special events. Each of our communities has something to offer you. You will not become less active just by changing homes, you will be able to keep your fast paced schedule, but you will no longer have the worries of keeping up with your household.
What types of services are offered at your senior housing communities?
Our services generally fall into two categories, enhancement and assistance. Each of our communities have many different services, but just to name a few, we offer delicious meals and nutritious snacks, staff lead recreation and activity programs, staff serviced laundry and housekeeping needs, 24 hour monitored emergency response, staff assisted medication administration and personal assistance. We encourage you and your family to review the services to confirm that they conform to your needs. Our residence managers will be able to provide a detailed list of services provided at the community that you choose.
Do you have an entrance fee?
Yes, the fee is used to cover the costs of the initial assessment, income verification, preliminary care plan, and administration. It is not used as a security deposit and is refundable upon move-in.
How much are the fees for all of the services provided?
A complete list of services and their fees are provided in our resident handbooks that are available to you from our community administrator.
How much is the fee for one of your studios, suites, apartments or units in your communities?
